Gites, B&Bs, etc. are Upping Their Game
In years gone by, bed & breakfast and self-catering venues have enjoyed a mixed reputation. Perhaps, like me, you’ve visited gites in France where you’ve been confronted by grandma’s old and unwanted furniture, few ‘mod-cons’ and you probably had to take your own towels… and even your own bedding!
Thankfully, things are changing for the better. The growth of ’boutique hotels’ and the popularity of Grand Designs and Amazing Spaces on TV have contributed to consumer-led improvements in all areas of ‘vacational comfort’.
Even better for we car-lovers is the growth of places to stay for B&B or self-catering that make Petrolheads Welcome (like what I did there?).
Stephen & Stephanie Barlow of ‘Bonnes Routes‘ have spent 3 years making their gite in France ideal for motorists. They told us:
“Having organised our own driving holidays and never really finding anywhere that offered what we needed for our cars, we wanted the focus to be on providing a haven, and some great driving experiences, for enthusiasts.”
Not only do they provide a comfortable destination in the Dordogne, but they also provide cleaning equipment tools, paper overalls and details of tried and tested local scenic drives.
‘Le Gite Sereine‘ is another petrolhead-owned and run venue in France. Owner, Alex Hudson, offers his huge barn for dry garaging with a selection of tools and car cleaning equipment. Being about 30 minutes from Angouleme and its famous ‘Circuit des Ramparts’ is another bonus for petrolheads.
Nearer home (for UK readers) is the deliciously titled ‘Petrolhead Pitstop‘ in the countryside just north of Brighton. A new B&B venture for owners, Steve & Sarah, that is hoping to attract some special cars to join their own collection of interesting metal!
Needless to say, all of the venues provide modern comfortable accommodation that doesn’t require you to bring your own towels… or bedding!
We are delighted to list these and other venues of this type on our website.
If you know of somewhere that’s not listed on Petrolheads Welcome, please tell us.
