Whilst we haven’t been there (yet), we can’t resist a pub/hotel whose website has a dedicated classic cars section and includes the phrase “In addition to managing The Fat Lamb Hotel for almost forty years, I have more recently been able to indulge my other great passion – owning, maintaining and driving Classic Cars.”
Lots of car clubs meet there and owner Paul Bonsall is very active in car events and car-related charity work (the Sporting Bears). Here’s a summary of his conversation with us:
“We don’t just welcome classic car owners to the Fat lamb – we thrive on them, car tours forming a very large part of our business these days. We host over thirty visiting car and motorbike meets per year, mostly residential, and offer a full tour planning service to event organisers – planning routes, printing off tour notes or tulip books, booking lunch/tea/coffee stops, arranging visits to a variety of interesting venues en-route and designing and supplying personalised rally plates. We even have a fully equipped workshop complete with four post lift to keep everyone on the road.
Danny Hopkins, editor of Practical Classics magazine has dubbed us ‘The Ultimate Classic Friendly Inn‘ and the PC team have stayed with us on many occasions. Our bar is full of petrol pumps, old oil cans, fuel cans and other motoring memorabilia.
We offer individual members of any Classic Car club an immediate 10% discount off our standard room rates just for putting a nice car on our car park – rising to 20% for four rooms or more, or qualifying for our Group Rates if they take nine rooms or more.”
